Picturing Food Justice (2023)

Picturing Food In/Justice, (2023).

A participatory and collaborative photography project that addresses issues around food justice, particularly in Nottingham’s NG7 Radford area. The project is supported by collaboration between Off Centre Photography Festival, Himmah Food Bank, and Primary Arts.

Food justice is a holistic way of viewing the broader structures affecting people’s access to food systems. It begins on the basis that healthy food is a human right and that there is a need to address the structural barriers to that right. By thinking about food justice, we aim to improve access to healthy food for all and examine the structural roots of these disparities; racial and economic justice are important interconnected issues to address.

Despite the growing presence of food injustice across the country, the visual representation of these issues has been slow. This project collaborated with local people who had experienced food injustice to express their voices, experiences, and ideas visually.

This project was part of Nourishment: A cyclical programme and is supported by Real Creative Futures.
